Discussion Starter:
30,000 dominoes stacked up just to be knocked down for a YouTube video? Think about all the hours that went into that. 30,000 dominoes takes a long time and a steady hand. Simultaneously fascinating and an epic waste of time!

The Apostle Paul said this about epic time waste, “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.” (2 Thessalonians 3:6) Notice how serious Paul is about this? He doesn’t issue a lot of “commands” but in this case he did. Instead, as he says in verse 8, we should work hard so we’re not a burden on others.

3 Questions:

Would you rather sit around and do nothing or have something productive to do?
Have you ever been called lazy?
What do you think being idle reveals about your relationship with God?

Topic: Focus

Bible: Colossians 3:2, 17

Discussion Starter: At first you look at this video and maybe wonder: Why? But the answer is also somewhat obvious: Because he had a laser.

This works because the laser focuses all the power of the lights electrons into a beam strong enough to pop the black balloons, which absorb the energy instead of scattering it like a lighter colored balloon would, causing it to burst. If it didn’t focus all of its energy than this wouldn’t work at all.

In Colossians 3:2, the Apostle Paul tells us “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” In other words, focus all of your attention on important, Kingdom-minded things. And what’s the impact? Paul answers that in verse 17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

3 Questions:

If you had a laser that could blow things up, what would you blow up first?
Would your friends describe you as focused or lacking focus?
Would you describe your relationship with God as focused or lacking focus?

Discussion Starter:

Two quick thoughts. 1. Are there videos for the times they tried this and failed? 2. Wouldn’t that be cool to try while water skiing?

In all seriousness, a stunt like that is daring and likely took some planning and practice. It is a fantastic example of the amazing things you can do when you work as a team.

In Romans 12, Paul writes “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Just like the skiers, the church is supposed to be a team. We don’t all have the same job to do, but each of us is important.

3 Questions:

What’s one thing you’ve accomplished on a team?
How is your church like a team?
Do you feel needed in your ministry?

Inventing Something

Discussion Starter:

The cell phone has been around for so long and is so normal in our daily life that we don’t even think about it as something someone invented. But way back in 1973 Marty Cooper did just that. Built around the simple idea that people are fundamentally mobile, he used his knowledge to create a way for people to communicate with anyone, anywhere.

While not specifically talked about, the Bible documents Jesus followers inventing lots and lots of things to deal with everyday problems. In Acts 6, the church faced a problem of having widows who weren’t getting properly cared for. So someone came up with the idea… we should have people in the church whose role is caring for widows! That may seem obvious, but someone had to actually invent that.

We share this because the church/youth group needs you to help identify things which aren’t working very well and help creatively invent solutions! With your help the church/youth group can help more and more people in new ways.

3 Questions:

Would you rather be grounded for a month or lose cell phone privileges for a month?
Have you ever lost your cell phone somewhere strange? Where?
What are things that you think your church/youth group could do better?

Topic: Conformity

Bible: Romans 12:2

Discussion Starter:

The word conformity means, “the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to group norms.” As the experiment in the video points out we each have the ability to conform to social pressure.

In Romans 12:2 the Apostle Paul writes, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

There’s a popular saying right now: It is what it is. It’s a phrase which acknowledges the patterns which Paul talks about. When you say the phrase, it is what it is, it’s giving into certain things which will happen, both good and bad, beyond what you think you can change. But Paul challenges us to try to fight that! In fact, he says that when we fight that mentality we’ll be able to experiment some– “to test and approve what God’s will is.”

3 Questions:

Have you ever tried an experiment on your friends?
Would you rather know God’s will or not know God’s will?
How would knowing God’s will change things for you?

Topic:
Judging others by what we don’t know about them

1 Samuel 16:7

Discussion Starter:
Was something ignited in you when you watched this video? Sadly, many of us feel like as misunderstood, ignored, and chastised as the young man in the video.

Remember king David? Something deep inside of him knew that he had great worth in God’s eyes but few recognized it. In fact, David’s dad completely overlooked him when Samuel came to anoint one of his sons as king.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

This is good news for us, isn’t it? When you are misunderstood, ignored, and chastised you can rest knowing that God’s looking at your heart. In the same way, when you look at others you can’t just judge them based on what you see, you have to discover what’s inside of their heart.

3 Questions:

Would you rather develop break dancing skills or dubstep skills?
When was a time you were hurt because someone misjudged your heart?
If you could undo a single misunderstanding between yourself and someone you love, what would it be?

Stress

Colossians 3:13; Nehemiah 4:14

Discussion Starter:
Sometimes, don’t you just feel like screaming? It’s understandable as life can be very stressful.

God called Nehemiah to go back to Jerusalem, rebuild the walls, in an effort to help protect the inhabitants from attack and begin restoring the city to its former prestige. But when he arrived in Jerusalem to do this great work, he met all sorts of opposition. Needless to say, he was stressed out!

Nehemiah gives us an excellent example of how how we can deal with everyday stress. He dealt with things like workers not doing the work correctly, people making fun of him, people threatening to harm him physically, and people intimidating him. As you read Nehemiah’s story you begin to see a pattern in his life. When a stressful time hit you see Nehemiah call on God in prayer for guidance.

“After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
Nehemiah 4:14

Sometimes when we’re stressed out it’s good to take some time to talk to God and ask him for perspective.

Would you rather get yelled at by a goat or a sibling?
Have you ever seen or heard an animal do something really crazy?
When are times when you are most stressed out?

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” You’ve probably heard that phrase most of your life. It’s affectionately known as The Golden Rule.

Sometimes we think that representing Jesus in our day-to-day lives has to be difficult or huge. As if it’s limited to feeding the homeless or going on a mission trip. In reality, we can do small things every day that let others know that God loves them.

Assumptions

Joshua 2:8-13

Discussion Starter:

Let’s say that a tragedy might hit your family and everyone could be killed. But you given the chance to save your family by solving a riddle. We’d line up 100 people in front of you, pick the right person and everyone survives. Pick the wrong person… bad things happen.

All you knew about them was what they looked like, what their name was, and what their occupation was. Then we showed you the line-up. Among them were a judges, doctors, police officers, soldiers, pastors, teachers, family members, and a prostitute. Who would you pick?

Believe it or not, Joshua 2 describes a similar situation. And in that situation God picked a prostitute, Rehab, to save His people. That’s not who you’d assume God would choose, is it? A prostitute might be the least likely of the 100!

That’s what happens when you make assumptions. Looks can be deceiving. Until you carefully examine a situation, looking at it from multiple angles, you might not make the wisest choice.

When was a time your eyes played a trick on you?
Would you rather someone assume good things about you and be disappointed or bad things about you and be surprised?
Why do you think God picked a prostitute in Joshua 2?

Topic:
Stand up for yourself

Bible:
Galatians 5:1; Luke 17:3

Discussion Starter:
We’ve all been there. We really, really want to do something. But then when we get there it’s too scary to go through with. A lot of us have been that friend, too. We know our friend wants to go forward with it and you know that if they’ll just overcome their fear it won’t be so bad. So we’re tempted to push them.

But the fact is that the boyfriend had no right to push his girlfriend into doing something she wasn’t ready to do.

As a believer, sometimes people will try to push you around or tempt you to do things that you’re not comfortable with. In Galatians 5:1 the Apostle Paul reminds us that we should stand up for ourselves, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” As a new creation in Christ we aren’t slaves to things like peer pressure anymore, we’ve been set free!

At the same time, Jesus knew that sometimes we’d get pushed and we’d fall. In Luke 17 he says, “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.”

3 Questions:

Would you have pushed her?
Have you ever been pushed into something that you didn’t want to do? If so, what was it?
Which is easier for you? To forgive or be forgiven?

If the girl dumped her boyfriend but then ended up having fun, do you think she should get back together with him?

Discussion Starter:
There’s something hilarious about adults dancing badly, right? In this video it’s the unexpected joy of seeing otherwise boring people, newscasters, trying to be cool, that makes it completely hilarious. Newscasters aren’t supposed to dance. They aren’t supposed to have fun. They are just supposed to read the news.

Here’s what is cool. Having faith in Jesus is a little like that video. Just like newscasters aren’t supposed to break out into a crazy dance party, people who aren’t supposed to love Jesus can and do. And that freedom found in Christ allows those people to do unexpected things. This reality infuriated religious people in Jesus’ day. One day they were angry at Jesus for allowing children to interrupt his teaching. But he told them, “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.”

Topic: Paying Attention

Bible: Luke 22:39-46

Discussion Starter:
Why in the world would you need your iPhone in your pocket while practicing for the X Games? You don’t! He should have handed it to a friend or left it in the locker room. If we are honest with ourselves we have done the same thing… used our cell phone at a time when it wasn’t appropriate and looked foolish.

You are in good company! The disciples had a similar moment during the biggest dramas of human history. After the Last Supper, Jesus takes his disciples to the Mount of Olives to pray about what’s to come. He tells them to stay awake and pray. But they fell asleep! Jesus comes back after having just pleaded with His Father so hard that Luke says he was sweating from praying. And what does he find?

“When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” (Luke 22:45-46)

What’s the point? It’s really important to give your full attention to things. If it’s time to play than play. If it’s time to study than study. If it’s time to pray than pray. Don’t let silly things like the notifications on your phone make you look like the guy in the video.

Topic: Children of Light

Bible: Ephesians 5:8-13

Discussion Starter:
What strikes me about Tommy’s skateboarding is his confidence. To him it’s no big deal. To us it looks like a miracle.

Tommy took something most people would view as darkness, his blindness, and brought light to it with his bravery, practice, and positive attitude. No one on the planet would have looked down on him had he never tried skateboarding. But everyone who sees him is impressed because he hasn’t just tried it, he’s figured out how to use his disability to take skating to a whole new level.

In Ephesians 5, the Apostle Paul reflects on this same idea. He says that before we knew Christ we once belonged to darkness. But now, Paul says, we are “children of light.” While we once belonged to the darkness we don’t have to be afraid. Instead, we’re called to bring light into dark places. “But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.” (Ephesians 5:13)

3 Questions:

If you had to pick, which of your five senses would give up?
Tommy says that falling is a skill you get good at. Is that also true of being a Christ follower?
In the video, Tommy said that he gets an adrenaline rush when he finally lands a trick. What’s something that gives you a big adrenaline rush?

Discussion starter:
In the video the hang glider thought he could fly. While we can giggle at his misfortune in the video, it’s just as easy for us to believe things about ourselves which aren’t true. Sometimes we look in the mirror and don’t like what we see. Or maybe there are things about our personality we wish we could change? Or maybe, in dark moments, we wish we could be a completely different person?

There are a lot of lies we can tell ourselves. But, as a Christ follower, there are also some truths that we can reflect on and relax in the undeniable truth of. Romans 12:3 says, “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment.” Notice that Paul doesn’t say, “Think poorly of yourself.” He says, “See yourself for who you are!” In the same way in 1 John 3 it says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”

In times when you second-guess who you are in this world, reflect back on who God says you are, a child of God.

Discussion starter:
“Don’t stick your hand out of the window!” Chances are pretty high that you’ve heard this from an adult in your lifetime. You were enjoying the aerodynamics of your hand while sitting in the passenger seat of a car and a concerned adult was trying to make sure you didn’t break your arm. (Or worse!)

Just like with your imagination, some people have a tendency to want your faith in Jesus to “grow up.” They’d like to see you giving up the belief that Jesus is God and is capable of anything, including working miracles in your heart and through your life. But that’s not Jesus’ desire for you. He says in Mark 10:15, “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” In an upside down sort of way, Jesus asks us to embrace faith in him in a childlike, makes-no-sense kind of way. Why? Just like when we played these games as kids, one reason Jesus wants us to have faith like a little child is because when we do that nothing can stop us!

Isaiah 43:19

Discussion starter:
Sometimes seeing things from a different angle, or in this case in reverse, makes it brand new.

The writer of Isaiah says it like this, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” The key word there is “perceive.” Perceive means to become aware of something. In other words, God is always doing new thing. The key is being open enough to see what God is up to in your life. To be aware of what is new and seeing if God is in it.

Whether its a big milestone or a small one, God is always at work in our lives. But often times it’s up to us to, as Isaiah says, “perceive it.”

Are you someone who perceives things naturally or do you have to work at it?

Topic:
Misunderstood, Forgiveness

Discussion Starter:
Whether it’s with your parents, your teachers, your friends, or other people in your life you can probably identify with the cat in this video. You, like some house cats, are sometimes deeply misunderstood.

There are lots of ways you can get hurt when you have been misunderstood. Someone may question your motives or maybe the words that came out of your mouth were taken the wrong way? Or maybe your actions didn’t accurately reflect your intentions and created a problem? The simple truth is that as long as there have been two people there have been misunderstandings. This goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. Satan created a misunderstanding with God’s instructions to Adam and Even to create problems. And that misunderstanding brought sin into the world!

Yet, followers of Christ can chose an alternative. In Colossians 3, Paul writes “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And in 1 Peter 4, the author adds, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

Misunderstandings are going to happen as none of us are perfect. But if you offer forgiveness to others when they misunderstand you, you’ll be thankful that you did.

Discussion starter
Can we actually get people to obey the speed limit for fun? What an interesting question! Apparently, in this small case, the answer is “Yes.” This concept, that people will change their habits if its fun, makes me think about other ways people might modify their behavior? Like, if it were fun would people work out more? Would they do their homework if it were fun? Would they do their own laundry if it were fun?

What about going to the dentist for fun? OK, that’s too far.

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus talks about a similar concept. In the beatitudes, Matthew 5:3-10, Jesus uses the word blessed over and over again. Another translation for the word “blessed” is “happy.” Jesus emphasizes that if you truly want to be happy in life you will do these things. Go ahead, read that passage substituting the word blessed for happy and see how that sounds to your ear.

Kind of like having fun by not speeding, right?

3 Questions

If you had a speed camera like that on your way to school, would you drive slower?
Do you think its better to punish people for bad behavior or reward them for good behavior?
Which one of Jesus’ beatitudes just sounds impossible with the word “happy” in front of it?

Discussion starter:
Let’s state the obvious. This video is not 101 things to try on our next mission trip.

Trampolines work because energy is transferred when you push down, is stored briefly in the springs & bedding, then transferred back into your legs/body so that you get to bounce nearly as high, or even a little higher, than you’ve jumped. Typically, you get about as much energy back as you put into it. But with practice, skill… or a partner you actually get more energy out of it than you put in.

While not exactly the same it is similar to what happens when you pray. In Matthew 7, Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” In other words, you’ve got to work on it a little. Sometimes you need to knock on the door again and again in prayer, asking God to move something big. (Colossians 4:2-6; 1 Timothy 5:5) You’ve got to expect that you’ll get out of prayer what you put into it.

Challenge accepted! With 70 seconds on the clock you have to get from Point A to Point B for a fun prize. If you think about it nearly every day you face a similar test. A life with Jesus is full of obstacles, distractions, and unexpected adventures. As we saw in the video, if the prize is worth it nothing seems can get in your way.

But how do we do that day in and day out? In 1 Corinthians 9 Paul gives us the strategy for overcoming distractions in our walk with Christ. “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” In other words, the best way to overcome stuff that keeps us from getting our prize is self-discipline. To win the prize you can’t waste your time focusing on the obstacles, you have to focus on winning the prize.

“Attention mall shoppers, walk on the left and leave room for the go karts racing through the food court.” That’s an announcement you’ll never hear at the mall! Just imagine how crazy that would be to do on the day after Thanksgiving.

Watching that video, obviously a commercial and not real life, you could see how much fun it was to film it. As they learned, it’s one thing to imagine how much fun it’d be to drive a go-kart through a mall, it has to be ten times as fun to actually do it.

In John 10 Jesus says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” As a Christian, it’s easy to think that everyone else gets to have all the fun. But Jesus reminds us that living for Him isn’t boring at all, he wants us to live life to the fullest!

What kind of public space would you like to go-kart through?
In your opinion, what would living life to the fullest look like for you?

Discussion starter:
Did he predict it correctly for you? Wasn’t that crazy? At first, you probably thought you could trick him and he’d get it wrong. But as it came down to the last 2-3 moves your mind probably shifted to think, “Wait a minute. How did he do that?”

This video is actually a lot like the Christian life. At first, growing in your relationship with Jesus might seem unpredictable. Perhaps you grew close to God at camp but can’t quite figure out how to do that at home? You aren’t alone. Lots of people struggle to grow close to God in their daily lives.

The Apostle Paul wrote this to a younger pastor named Timothy, “Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”

In other words, growing in your relationship with God isn’t a chance occurrence. It happens when you seek Him, are self-disciplined, and develop godly habits you’ve probably heard about most of your life: Reading the Bible, memorizing scripture, spending regular time in prayer, and being in community with other believers.

Were you frustrated or amused that the video predicted your guess correctly?
When was a time something happened in your life that was completely unpredictable?
What are ways you need to be more disciplined about your relationship with God?

A fearless life

Discussion Starter:
“Be careful!” Chances are high that your parents say that phrase regularly. Be careful going to school, be careful going out with friends, be careful while playing your favorite sport. For parents, it’s only natural to say as they don’t want to see you get hurt.

Either the people featured in this video ignored their parents advice or they or they know the difference between being careful and being fearful.

Be careful saying be careful! In Mark 4, the disciples experience pure terror. They are out on a large lake in a relatively small boat when a huge storm comes in. Mark writes, “the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.” Interesting, Jesus slept through the whole thing. At some point in the night the storm got so bad that they woke up Jesus just to ask him why he wasn’t afraid. After calming the storm Jesus corrected them, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Following Jesus often means overcoming fear and living a fearless life. As we follow Jesus in the storms of our lives he reminds us that when we are faithful– our fear will be put in its proper place.

What are things that you are afraid of?
How would your day-to-day life look different if your faith was fearless?

Understanding the Bible

Discussion Starter:
This clip from Ellen gives us an example of what would happen if we lived out Ephesians 5:19– really, really literally. Paul instructs Christians to speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.

Imagine how weird it’d be if we communicated purely by quoting lyrics from songs? Life would get really weird really fast because songs are usually written poetically and not how we normally talk to one another. (And sometimes it’d be really cool, just like in the video!)

Want another one? Read Hebrews 4:12 and imagine how that would play itself out if taken very literally. Imagine your Bible jumping up from your desk, walking around, and slicing people up.

The point is that it’s not just important to read the Bible, it’s also important to understand what the Bible says. (Or doesn’t say) So we can’t just focus on reading, we have to also learn how to understand what God is saying to us through His Word.

3 Questions:

What would be a funny song to act out literally at Costco?
Have you ever thought about what it’d be like to be an eyewitness to some of the stuff in the Bible? What would you like to have seen?
Have you ever misunderstood the Bible in a funny or gross way?

Discussion Starter:
7th grade parent orientation includes a secret section for how to accomplish these dance moves and other classic things, such as kissing their spouse in public near your friends and wearing pajamas to drive you to school. It is a parents right and responsibility to dance badly to the embarrassment of their teenage children.

OK, so none of those things are true. The reality is that your parents probably think they are just having fun or trying to be cool. That embarrassment you feel is (probably) accidental.

Here’s the thing about embarrassing parents. The 5th Commandment says, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:20) There isn’t an out-clause for when they do things that make you cringe. You still have to find ways to honor them.

It’s not easy, it’s a choice you’ll have to make to honor God by honoring your parents.

Just think of it as payback for all the times you threw up on them as a baby or threw a temper tantrum in a restaurant as a toddler.

Discussion Starter
Caltech professor Mike Brown killed Pluto. As Brown says, it had it coming. He justifies killing Pluto with proof that it wasn’t ever really a planet in the first place but something we misunderstood as a planet.

Like planets, words have a funny way of moving in their meaning over time. English is one of the most difficult languages to learn because the meaning of our words changes so frequently.

James 1:17 is translated, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” The Bible that we read in English is a translation from Greek or Hebrew. Scholars take the original words and do the best that they can to put into our language what God’s Word is saying to us.

This is why we don’t just need to read the Bible. Instead, we need to understand what God is saying to us. Yes, the very words themselves are sacred and important. But more imporant than the words themselves is allowing those words to shape our life!

Don’t be that guy.

Jesus modeled for us what friendship can look like. In John 15 he says, “ I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

Friendship takes away the hierarchy of importance. It shares important, intimate stuff. And it serves one another out of love, not obligation. Friendship should be fun! But friendship should also be built on mutual love and caring for one another.

I know what you’re thinking? Where can I get one of those amazing masks? Ebay. You can find anything on Ebay! (OK, we checked. We couldn’t find it on Ebay.)

Our friends put words in our mouths all the time. We know that because we put words in our friends mouths, too. Even if they don’t do it to our faces or on purpose they are talking about us in good and bad ways. We can safely say that the people we are friends with have a powerful influence on not only what we think of ourselves but also what others think of us.

In Proverbs 12, Solomon shares an important insight about friendship. Solomon was a rich, powerful king. You can imagine that there were lots of people who wanted to be his friend. If you were friends with the king you’d likely have special privileges and power in the kingdom. So Solomon knew how important it was to surround himself with friends who liked him for the right reasons. He wrote, “The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.”

In the video, the comedian picked Luke. She chose him carefully so he’d play along with her joke. So too, we need to be careful in how we pick our friends.

A well-intentioned, well-executed prank is fun for everyone. Even the guy who got pranked is laughing uncontrollably. His friends told him the bungee jump was 50 feet. As the video shows it was actually about 3 feet.

Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, “Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” We saw in the video how easily it is to be misled, literally blind-folded, by your friends into something. That’s why it is so important to surround yourself with friends of good character who know the difference between a fun, innocent prank and something that corrupts good character.

Discussion Starter:
While unconventional this idea is brilliant. A skydiver who also loves kayaking only naturally dreams up skyaking. Secretly, I’m hoping that somewhere out there a bull rider who also loves skydiving is dreaming up skybullriding!

The simple reality is that most people watch that video kind of hoping he doesn’t nail the landing. If he hadn’t nailed the landing this video would have 10 million views instead of 300,000.

That’s a little like our life with Jesus, isn’t it?. Something deep in our friends souls recognizes that there is something different about us. As the Holy Spirit lives in and through us we stick out and just our friends learn a lot about being a Christian simply by how we live and interact with day-to-day life. They are wondering, “Will he nail the landing or fall on his face?”

The author of Hebrews speaks to this. He reminds us to focus and finish well. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The best part of this video, besides that the ridiculous shot went in, is that the player didn’t seem to think it was a big deal. He just went about playing the game as if he’d made a layup instead of a falling-out-of-bounds-underhanded-toss-that-swished he’d likely never attempted before. Imagine what would have happened if Lebron James had made the same shot?

Our culture is obsessed with success. And we are quick to claim ownership of any success that comes our way. But a word study of the word “success” in the Bible will reveal that God most often either gives success to someone or He chooses to make someone successful. Since we don’t make success we shouldn’t claim ownership for success that comes our way.

3 Questions:

How many times would you have to attempt that shot before it went in?
Would you rather see this live and miss the replay or seeing it on YouTube so you can watch it over and over again?
Have you ever taken ownership of something that went right even though it was a complete accident?

Discussion Starter:
Talk about sticking out! You can imagine that even if people don’t know his name they are able to identify him by his behavior.

Living out your faith might make you feel similarly out of place. While your behavior doesn’t make you a Christian, often times living for Jesus means that you act differently than people who aren’t.

We all know that living for Jesus makes us stick out. Have you ever asked yourself why?

The Apostle Peter describes this phenomenon in 2 Peter chapter 2, “Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”

In other words, we stick out for a reason! Just going about your business as a Christian, even if it makes you stick out a little bit, is an act of worship that glorifies God.

3 Questions:
1. Would you rather run like a monkey or talk like a parrot?
2. When was a time that being a Christian made you stick out?
3. Have you ever seen God glorified simply by how you live?

Everything about that clip defies physics. Watch it again. How did he get so far in front of the other car? How was he able to just step out of a spinning car? How was one shot able to flip that car like that? And grabbing the bad guy out of a spinning car… did he somehow unfasten his seatbelt because there’s no way he would have been sitting in the driver’s seat, flipping like that without a harness. Right?

But it did make for a pretty cool action sequence. If the police could capture every bad guy like that people would pay to be cops instead of the other way around.

In Matthew 17:20, Jesus says something that is even more bold than the video. “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

My faith can move a mountain? Like, had Jesus ever actually seen a mountain when he said that? Read verses 1-19 of that same chapter and you’ll see that Jesus and his disciples had just walked down from a mountain prior to him saying that. (verse 9)

Whatever the mountain is in your life. Whatever obstacle between you and where you need to go, Jesus tells us to have bold faith!

(Our lawyer wants you to know that no matter how much faith you have, please don’t jump out of moving cars, OK?)

We each have fears to overcome and moments of triumph when we put fear behind us in order to accomplish a goal. While we may not experience moments exactly like the 4th grade girl in this video, there will be many times in our lives where we look down the ski jump of our lives and have to murmur, “Here I go.”

In Romans 8 the Apostle Paul reminds us of who we are in Christ. He doesn’t tell us that a life with Jesus won’t be scary or full of challenges. And he doesn’t tell us that things that are scary today won’t be any less scary. “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Paul says that it’s because of God’s love for us that we can each swallow hard at life’s challenges and push ourselves to become more than conquerors.

Have you ever had to push through a fear to try something new?
Who is coaching you through life’s difficult times like the coach in the video?

I bet you thought this was a special effects prank! But if you look at the authors YouTube channel you’ll see that this is really happening on her back porch in Alaska.

On the one hand, we can see how this unlikely friendship could quickly end in someone becoming a meal. But on the other hand, the unlikelihood of their friendship is amazingly fun.

As we think about the people in our lives we can admire this odd animal friendship in Alaska and have hope that it really is possible to live at peace with anyone. Paul writes in Colossians 3, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Love and forgiveness make all types of relationships possible in Christ! Imagine what your school would be like if all of the eagles, foxes, and cats got along?

3 Questions:

If a cat, eagle, and fox were to get into a fight, who do you think would win?
Which one of those animals do you associate with the most? Why?
Have you ever helped make peace between two people who didn’t get along?

Watch this video twice. The second time, keep your eyes on the bikers hands and notice how rarely he uses the brakes.

This amazing ride wouldn’t be any fun if the biker didn’t let go of the brake and trust his life to his skills and equipment. He had to push doubt and fear away in order to lean into the adventure and challenge before him.

This ride is a lot like our walk with Jesus. We can put the brakes on, allowing fear and doubt to hold us back from our potential. Or we can put our trust fully in Christ and, as 1 John 4:18 says, “perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

Which is worse, falling on those rocks or falling off the cliff?
Would you rather be in control or out of control?
What are some areas you see people apply the brakes to their life with Christ?

Discussion starter:
The subtitle of this video might be, “101 things your mom doesn’t want you to do.” Just about every clip in that video could get you killed.

As you watched this video, were there emotions that erupted inside of you. Did it get you excited? Or were you cringing as you imagined yourself attempting some of those same things?

Genesis 12 documents that at 75 years old, God challenged Abraham to take the biggest risk of his life. God called him to walk away from everything he knew and move his family to Canaan. Abraham would have rather base jumped or done back flips on a bike than tell his wife they needed to leave their homeland at their age and start over. But he did it and God rewarded him greatly.

Sometimes following God’s call on your life will lead you to do scary and dangerous things. And while your mom or your family might think your crazy, the rewards that God offers make it all worth it. (Genesis 12:2-3)

Topic: Conforming to God’s way

Discussion Starter:
Two weird things went through my head when I watched this video. First, someone would have had to contact the Guinness Book of World records to find out the current record for Human Dominoes. Second, someone must have sent out a hilarious email asking for volunteers to participate in this. Can you imagine the subject line?

A key to the whole thing working was all 850 conforming to the pattern so that each human domino fell in the right order at the right time. In Romans 12:2, the Apostle Paul says what we all know in our souls. We are all conforming to some sort of pattern. Paul’s challenge for us is to give up conforming to the world’s pattern, but to instead be transformed by the renewing of our minds around Christ. In other words, we aren’t born conforming our lives to the right things. Jesus has to intervene and help us get a brand new mind.

3 Questions:

Would you rather be the person who set this up or one of the people who got to be a domino?
What are some patterns of the world that you’ve noticed?
Why does it matter that Jesus can renew our minds? (HINT: Check out the second half of Romans 12:2)

Discussion Starter:
For most of us that was the only time in our lives we’ve heard the words “fishing” and “athletic move” in the same sentence. But you have to admit it was really cool. He was desperate to land that fish. And jumping out, getting wet, and jumping back in, was just the price he had to pay to catch it.

If you listen to the commentator in the video you’ll hear that the fisherman’s actions actually saved the fish’s life. If he hadn’t gone after it the hook and extra line may have been snagged on something and killed the fish. But a fish caught in the competition would be released.

For Christians, Jesus asks us to do the same thing. Matthew 4:19 says, “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” Jesus invites us to jump out of the safe, dry boat and do whatever it takes to fish for people.

What can we learn from this video? When it comes to fishing for people sometimes you have to make a desperate move.

Would you have gone after that fish?
Have you ever heard of someone taking desperate measures to reach someone?
What’s one way you could fish for people this week?

Discussion starter:
Have you ever been around a baby? Much of what they learn comes from mimicking what they see. As she grows she will begin to walk, talk, and behave just like her parents.

Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

OK, so the dog in the video wasn’t made in its owner’s image. But you were made in God’s image. One reason you are so good at imitating is because you are an image bearer. Why would that be true? Paul says, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

In other words, we are made in God’s image so that we can love others like God loves us.

3 Questions:

Josh’s story isn’t about what he can’t do because of his accident. Instead he’s made his story about what he can accomplish after the accident.

Genesis 37 tells the story of a famous dreamer, Joseph. He was the 11th born of 12 kids. And yet he dared to dream that one day he’d become important. All throughout his life his wild dreams lead him into and out of trouble until one day, his dreams lead him to become the second most powerful person in all of Egypt.

Like Josh, Joseph’s story wasn’t defined by what he couldn’t become. What would happen if your dreams were bigger than your limitations?

Discussion starter:
The shepherd is likely the most referred to occupation in the Bible. Interestingly, nearly every culture has some version of a shepherd. It might not always be sheep but shepherding is one of those occupations that nearly every culture somehow needs.

What’s interesting is that we, as humans, like to think of ourselves as the shepherds of our lives. We watch that video and we think, “Stupid sheep! Why are you running circles around that car!?” But the Bible consistently compares us to sheep in need of a shepherd because, left alone, we get lost.

The Psalmist David refers to the Lord as, “the Shepherd of Israel.” (Psalm 80:1) And John calls Jesus, “the Good Shepherd.” (John 10)

Would you rather be the guy driving the car or the guy holding the camera?
Why do you think those sheep did that?
What are areas of your life where you need a shepherd?

Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” A casual acquaintance or even someone you’ve known for a long time might notice what’s shaking in your life. But a true friend will take the time to pull the plug and help you fix what is broken.

We have a tendency to have a been there, done that attitude when it comes to God. Sometimes we read the Bible or pray and it isn’t all that exciting. We might even think of interacting with God as boring.

But have you ever stopped to think about how incredibly crazy it is that you can close your eyes and talk to God? The same God who spoke the universe into existence, the same God whose breath filled humanities lungs, the same God who inspired a person to create Cool Ranch Doritos… you can actually talk to Him and He hears you! You can actually open and read a book He inspired for you to read and meditate on.

That’s exciting!

Which would be more fun? Having a wish granted or granting the wish of your best friend?
What do you think gets God excited?

This was a classic case of big brother logic vs. little brother logic. Big brothers always think they can outsmart their little brothers. And little brothers are always out to impress their big brothers. In this case the big brother’s faulty logic cost him $57.

Did you know that little brother logic is actually in the Bible? Paul writes to Timothy, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12) In other words, impress older people in the church with your competence. When they doubt your abilities or faithfulness, make time to show them what you can do.

When was a time someone younger showed you up?
If you were the big brother in the video, would you let him keep the money?
What is one thing you are competent at that others admire in you?

Discussion starter:
Each of us has something that is uniquely us. Maybe it’s a funny talent? Such as extreme eyebrow control. Or maybe it’s that you have the ability to listen to your friends talk about their day and hear what is really going on?

In the same way God has created each of us with a unique mix of gifts. In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul says, “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” In other words, the Holy Spirit has given you unique gifts not just for your own good, but the good of everyone. These are things that you can do which are so unique that others can point to and say, “Yes, that thing you did. That was God in you.”

Here’s the thing about God making you unique. Paul teaches us that without you, the whole body will be handicapped. Not only did the Holy Spirit make you unique. He made it so that the rest of the body of Christ needs you to be complete. (1 Corinthians 12:21-22)

2 Corinthians 5:17

Discussion starter:
The earth rotates at 1,040 miles per hour. If you feel like life is going by pretty fast you are right! Your body is literally moving faster than the speed every second of every day.

Some people may feel like their life is spinning just a little bit faster than everyone else. Maybe you struggle to manage all the stuff in your life? And maybe your life has begun to feel out of balance? This happens when one activity or hobby begins to define your whole life. Consequently, when that one thing doesn’t go well you feel out of whack

Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” In other words, Paul says that we won’t ever find balance and happiness in that old stuff. In Christ we are made brand new. When we are out of balance it’s because we haven’t put Christ at the center of our lives.

Have you ever tried to balance something like you saw in the video? (Go ahead, give it a try!)
Would you rather have great balance or great speed?
What’s one are of your life that is completely out of balance right now?

Discussion starter
Two favorite parts of the video. First, it’s amazing how matter of fact the guy is about his new thumb. As if lots of people have big toes as thumbs? Second, somewhere there was a moment when a very respected surgeon suggested to a room of his colleagues that they cut off his big toe and sew it onto his hand. We need the video of that!

If you think about it, this man’s story is comparable to how God provided for His people in the Bible. God provided manna in the desert for 40 years. God provided a ram to sacrifice instead of Isaac. And God provided a baby born to a teen mom who became the Savior of the world.

What can we learn? God loves big, crazy, creative ways to provide for His people!

Discussion starter:
Not many people on this planet can run a mile in 4 minutes and 42 seconds. The pace is just too much. (Even for 60 feet) Yet elite runners, like Ryan Hall, can run 26 of them in a row.

What’s the difference between you and Ryan Hall? There are lots of physical differences but one primary difference is in the daily choices he makes. In order to compete at the highest level he makes hundreds of decisions each day to train his body a certain way that others do not. There may be tens of thousands of people with bodies like Ryan’s capable of running a marathon at a world-class marathon pace, but there are very few willing to commit to the training and lifestyle necessary.

In Philippians 3 the Apostle Paul describes walking with Jesus in terms of a race. Most people would look at his life and be amazed at his pace. But he looks at his life and says, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Would you rather be the fastest sprinter or fastest marathoner in the world?
What is something you want to train to do?
How is the pace of your life right now? Is it too fast, too slow, or somewhere in the middle?

Discussion Starter:
Mi Nombre Es… is a Chilean television show where contestants imitate a famous musician. (read more) Clearly, the contestant in the video is not Eddie Vedder. He looks nothing like him and doesn’t even speak the same language. But he sounds just like him.

Many animals mimic sounds and actions of other species. But humans are natural born imitators! You could even say that humans are better at imitation than any thing else on the planet. Genesis 1:26-27 says we were created by God to imitate our Creator for the purpose of ruling over other species on the earth.

While we have a natural tendency to imitate other humans Ephesians 5:1-2 says, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” So while we are natural-born imitators God tells us not to mimic other humans, but to imitate Him.

This leaves each of us with a question: Who am I imitating?

Three Questions:

Would you rather be a rock star or a television star?
What is an impersonation you are really good at?
If we polled your friends, who would they say you imitate?

Not many of us are faced with such difficult decisions like Jason’s. But we will all face moments in our lives where we question our decisions, perhaps regretting the decisions we have made for years to come.

Have you ever noticed there is a relationship between regret and comfort? Sometimes a decision, even a correctly made one, leads to suffering. And when you suffer you naturally question yourself, “Have I made the right decision?”

The Psalmist writes about this in Psalm 119:49-50:
Remember your word to your servant,
for you have given me hope.
My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life.

3 Questions:

Have you ever had a time when you had to make a huge decision in a hurry?
Would you rather love a person and then lose them or never love a person at all?

You can do good stuff all by yourself. And that’s awesome. Make great choices, show love to others, honor God’s passion for justice. But there’s something about doing good stuff with other people that gives us courage and strength. Why do you think it’s so difficult, at times, for us to really work together for the good of others?

3 Questions:

If you could only pick one (and not the other), would you rather live a lifetime of doing good things for other people, or having other people do good things for you?
When was the last time you partnered with other people to do something good? What was the experience like?
Are we only supposed to “do good together” with other Christians? Or, can our partnership include people who don’t believe what we do?

Ephesians 2:10 has two important words in it that you might not have noticed: we and us. The verse doesn’t say “For you are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for you to do.” Nope, it’s plural — we and us. The implication is that we were made to do good works together. What might that mean for your youth group? What might that mean for the people of your community?

Think about all of the complexities and skill that go into juggling two Rubik’s cubes with one hand and solving a Rubik’s cube with the other. Motor skills like balance, catching, tossing, and flipping. On top of that there are the problem solving skills of solving the puzzle.

When we see things like that we get a glimpse of how amazing humans are. Videos like this give you a glimpse of the complex tasks that humans can master.

The Rubik’s cube trick is tough for a human. But it’s nothing compared to all of the complexities God juggles at once.

The earth’s population will reach 7 billion people today. Jesus says in Matthew 10, “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” It’s unfathomable how God knows the current status of every star while also knowing the current status of every hair on every head in the world. Go ahead, pull one out right now. God just subtracted that from His count while making sure that the tide is balanced perfectly.

Three questions:

What is the most complex thing you have ever done?
Which super hero superpower would you rather possess, invisibility or flying?
Have you ever wondered how God knows every thought, choice, and action of 7 billion people at the same time?

Sometimes when talking about loving one another as believers our imagination limits that to sappy expressions of love. (Holding hands, boisterous hugs, silly songs, etc.) And yet, the love found in a good friendship is filled with every kind of emotion. Certainly, there are times when a friendship is quiet, reflective, and intimate. But other times love for one another is hilarious fun and loud!

What’s the difference between pranking a friend and picking on a friend?
Why do you think Jesus tells us we should have Christian friends?
Would you rather have 100 good friends or 1 best friend?

If dolphins could talk, and maybe they can, imagine the conversation as they developed this idea! “OK, I’m going to swim in circles around a school of fish. Then I’m going to freak them out and make them jump. All you have to do is hang out and open your mouth. Bam! Instant Happy Meal! Ready? Open wide on my cue!”

It’s tasty teamwork in the animal kingdom! Most delicious.

If we look at this video as a metaphor for a life with Christ, we see that Jesus is the one who draws the catch. He works in mysterious ways, innovating and orchestrating circumstances in a creative fashion. And our job? Jesus teaches us to show up at the right time and be prepared for what he might have for us.

“Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.” Luke 5:5-7

1. Which dolphin is more intelligent – the one who figured out how to do this or the ones who figured out how to catch the flying fish?

2. In what ways have you worked together with someone else to accomplish something bigger than either of you could do by yourself?

Wrestle with this: Jesus chose ordinary men and women to do the extraordinary work of building his kingdom. He bypassed all of the people from powerful or well connected families and instead built his team with normal people like you and me. Why do you think Jesus did this?

Apparently, you can do anything on the freeway in Russia. Who knows how they came up with this idea but it sure is awesome.

In some ways this video is a picture of a life spent following Jesus. Everyone around you thinks you are losing your mind while you have the time of your life. People point fingers and make fun of you, but you’re living the life they secretly dreamed they could live.

You stand in good company. Throughout the ages Christian men and women have been accused of losing their minds. Even on the day the church really began, the Day of Pentecost, some people pointed at Christ followers and said, “They must be drunk!”

Three Questions:

In the video, would you rather be playing the drums or driving the motorcycle?
What was a time where everyone thought you were doing something dumb, but you were having a good time?
Have you ever been laughed at or mocked for your faith? How did that make you feel?

In 1 Corinthians 4, Paul says that Christians are “fools for Christ.” If people who don’t know Jesus look at us as foolish, how are we to be taken seriously?

Topic: Manipulating Facts

Discussion Starter:

It’s crazy how close that fake commercial is to reality, isn’t it? Drug marketers are experts at highlighting the benefits of their products while making the side effects seem harmless. We are often just as good at manipulating facts. Sometimes we tell the others just enough of the truth so we aren’t technically lying while not telling the whole truth.

For example, we tell our parents we have completed our homework while not telling them that we don’t fully understand the assignment. Or we tell our friends that we are “fine” because that’s easier than the truth that we are physically fine but emotionally hurting.

At the same time, Ephesians 5:1 teaches believers that we are called children of God. Living up to that reality, that God both knows us intimately enough to call us His children, is both a burden and an amazing opportunity as we reveal His character as we interact with others.

Three Questions:

Would you rather be known as brutally honest or super polite?
What is one side effect you’ve experienced because someone lied to you?
Which person is easier to manipulate, a parent or a friend?

Wrestle with this:

If you are a child of God and God is the author of truth, what does manipulating facts teach you about your relationship with God?

If you suddenly found you could fly, where’s the first place you would go?
If you only ever saw Earth from the perspective in this video, what would you think about humans?
God isn’t just above it all, God understands everything. What difference should that make for you?

God doesn’t only hover over the earth with an amazing perspective that we don’t have, he also entered into our world as Jesus, and experienced it from the inside. What if God only had one perspective or the other (the overall, or the insider’s perspective)? What difference does it make that God has both perspectives?

What’s one thing (music, style, whatever) you thought was cool a few years ago, but think is totally lame today?

Each year hundreds of new words are created to describe things that are happening today that weren’t happening last year. Language, music, styles, communication, technology… they’re all constantly changing.

But God doesn’t change. The Psalmist tells us, “The plans of the Lord stand firm forever.” Why is that important? The theologian A.W. Pink writes, “Human nature can’t be relied upon; but God can! However unstable I may be, however fickle my friends may prove, God doesn’t change. If He varied like we do, if He willed one thing today and another tomorrow, if He were impulsive, who could trust in Him?” (Link: http://www.reformedreader.org/aog04.htm)

I bet you watched this video and thought: That’s gotta be fake. That baseball player is either crazy good or his friends are crazy good at editing video.

There is something about perfection that automatically makes us suspicious, isn’t there? We think: I’m not perfect, so there’s no way that someone else could be.

And yet, Paul–a deeply flawed man himself–wrote, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”

Thoughts from an Intern…’Worship’ is more than just standing around while the band is playing. ‘Worship’ is more than just reading the lyrics off the screens. Worship starts when YOU engage with God at a heart level. Worship is about expressing to God how good and mighty he is…EVEN if you don’t ‘feel’ like it. Worship should exalt God and exhort people. Corporate songs help us focus on God’s perfect character, in little chunks at a time, so that our minds’ don’t ‘blow up’ from how how big the Creator of the universe really is!

Threshold Goes to California!

During the school Spring Break (March 26 – April 3) a team of 14 teenagers and youth leaders from Threshold got in a van and made the 40 hour journey to Los Angeles, California for a mission trip to work with the Dream Center in LA.

The Dream Center is a ministry that is dedicated to helping the inner city of Los Angeles. Their mission is provide hope by meeting both tangible and spiritual needs of the community by providing food, clothing, shelter, life rehabilitation, education and job training, biblical training and much more through their 273 ministries and outreaches. We were able to partner with them and serve in many of these activities during the week. We served in the following ministries:

Food Bank/Food Truck: The Dream Center gets loads of food donated each day that get distributed to feed tens of thousands of people each month. Some of us spent one morning sorting through food before it went out. Later in the week were able to go with the “Food Truck” as we delivered grocery bags full of food to those in need.

Under the Bridge/Skid Row Outreach: On Wednesday we spent our morning walking the streets of Skid Row inviting the homeless to a meal we served in the afternoon where we got to interact with and pray for many of them there.

We also spent that evening in Santa Monica inviting the homeless to a meal in the evening, during which our team had the chance to pray for them and hear many fascinating stories.

Project Prevention: We were able to go out and deliver food, baby supplies, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and furniture to families that are at risk of losing their children to foster care because of poverty. We were able to go into various homes to deliver these supplies and pray with those families as well.

Adopt-a-Block: While we were unable to stay for their big Adopt-a-Block ministry on Saturday (when they minister to over 150 blocks of houses), we did serve the area by cleaning up garbage and doing a free window wash at the local gas station.

Our team worked together really well in spreading God’s love through practical service to the city of Los Angeles. This trip also gave our team a passion and desire to come back and bring glory to God by serving our local community.
