Discussion starter:
In the video the hang glider thought he could fly. While we can giggle at his misfortune in the video, it’s just as easy for us to believe things about ourselves which aren’t true. Sometimes we look in the mirror and don’t like what we see. Or maybe there are things about our personality we wish we could change? Or maybe, in dark moments, we wish we could be a completely different person?

There are a lot of lies we can tell ourselves. But, as a Christ follower, there are also some truths that we can reflect on and relax in the undeniable truth of. Romans 12:3 says, “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment.” Notice that Paul doesn’t say, “Think poorly of yourself.” He says, “See yourself for who you are!” In the same way in 1 John 3 it says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”

In times when you second-guess who you are in this world, reflect back on who God says you are, a child of God.
