Behind The Scenes

Rarely does God tell us all that He is planning and what will take place as He walks out His plans.   But reading Exodus 14:1-9, we get a picture of the plan of God.  God specifically tells Moses that as the children of Israel leave Egypt and camp between Migdol and the Red Sea.  Pharaoh will think that they are confused and wandering foolishly in the wilderness.  Pharaoh will assemble his armies, pursue Israel and Pharaoh’s Chariots and soldiers will be destroyed.  The plan works exactly as God declared it would.  Interestingly, it appears that the Children of Israel did not know the steps in the plan, for as Pharaoh is approaching the Israelites murmur and complain about how God has brought them into the wilderness to destroy them (Vs 10-12).  Moses declares that they are to stand still and see the salvation of The Lord (Vs 13).  You know the rest of the story as Pharaoh’s chariots and army are swallowed in the Red Sea.
Seeing the full picture, from God’s perspective of “behind the scenes”, we can say, “Yes, that was a good plan, it worked perfectly.”  However for the children of Israel, who did not know what God was doing it seemed like a threatening situation and they complained.
God does not usually give us the details of what He is doing and why He is doing it.  This can be challenging to us when it seems like we are vulnerable and under the attacks of the situations and people.  Perhaps this is where trust is essential, where we choose to trust that God is working His good and perfect will, even when we don’t understand what He is doing.
Lord Jesus, help us to trust that what You are doing is to increase Your Kingdom and to trust that in Your constant goodness.  Help us to “Stand Still”, in our heart and mind, resting in You.
