Some people are self focused, all they talk about is themselves.  “I will do …., I did …., I am able to …”  It is interesting that in Isaiah 14:13,14 we see the six “I wills” of Lucifer.  “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation … I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’  Each of these focus upon self exaltation and  ambitious determination.  In the Old Testament, whenever God makes a covenant with His people we see that He too provides a list of “I wills”, a list of what He will do.  Therefore in Exodus 6:6-8 God says, “I will rescue you…  I will redeem you…  I will take you as My people ….. I will be your God…  I will bring you into the land… and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord.” (You can also compare this with other covenantal statements as found in Genesis 12:1-3; Gen 17:6-8).

Can you notice the difference between these two statements of “I will”?  The first list is totally self serving, the latter is focused upon serving others.  Which nature do you most strongly resemble?  When you think of what you want to do, is it all about yourself or is it about helping those around you?

Lord, may we be like You. May we be more concerned about the welfare and good of others than about ourselves.  Help us to have a helping, sharing nature.

  1. You should take your own advice Keith. Or are you above all others? Self righteous Pharisee miss leading the flock. Wake up.

    1. I’m not certain what aspect of my thought you are refering to, when I write these thoughts I don’t write anything unless I am actually trying to work through the concepts myself. These devotional thoughts are all ones that I have and am personally challenged with. Of course I do admit that my life is not perfect and that I can improve in many areas.

  2. How does any of your blogs serve others? It’s always about you. You seriously don’t get it?
“Lord may we be like you. May we be more concerned about the welfare and good of others than about ourselves”. First of all, who is your ‘Lord”? His name is YHWH and his Son is Joshua and theirs also the Holy spirit who dwells in some of us but most who have it, have it bound on account of selfishness. You never seem to clarify who your “lord” is.
God doesn’t belong to us, we belong to him. We are not Gods, we are God’s. Second, all you talk about is yourself and offer no help at all to anyone. So explain to us what in the name of YHWH you’re talking about? Do you even know what you’re talking about? Everyone has their own problems, no one wants to hear about your self righteous “thoughts” that seem to appear on this blog. Usually thoughts stay in ones own mind.
Maybe you should drop the “pastor” title till you work things out. It’s scary to think anyone would take any advice from you. Get it together, you claim to be a pastor.
    God bless

  3. Pastor Keith.
I want to encourage you to keep sharing your god given thoughts. They soothe my soul. When I am feeling beaten down, as never before, my spirit is open to God speaking through you. Thank God and you, Pastor Keith!
