If Struggling in the Good Times

Jeremiah 12:5 “If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, In which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?”

Prior to this verse Jeremiah is complaining because it looks like the wicked are prospering and the godly including himself are suffering.  To which God challenges back by saying, in affect, that these are the good times, “what will you do when things get tougher.”  Some seasons of life are difficult and it is so easy to complain but if things get worse then what will we do?  Jeremiah’s problem was that he was frustrated over what was happening around him.  This frustration was robbing him of the strength which come from resting in The Lord.  Because his focus was wrong he was already exhausted.  What would he do when things got worse or when his family and loved ones turned against him.  We too are often like this, we get consumed by what is happening around us and don’t draw upon the strength of The Lord.  These things around us draw emotional, physical and spiritual strength from us.  Of course now is the time to learn how to walk in God’s strength.  Now is the time to be near to our Lord.   Learn in the good times don’t wait till things get worse.
