Who Do You Say That I Am?”

At one point in the ministry of Jesus, the question was asked, “Who do people say that I am?”  The disciples gave varied answers about what others thought and then Jesus queries more personally “But Who do you say that I am?” Peters answer was “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16). That is a good answer Peter, it qualified to be included into the scriptures!  Yet the thought that came to me was also personal.  Of the many names for God/Jesus which defines His nature, of the many attributes of God/Jesus which show how He responds towards mankind, of the concepts that people have about Jesus, being personal now, “Keith, Who do you say that I am?”

That was a good question which made me stop and think.  It wasn’t just a good answer that was needed, the question demanded a personal answer that was true to my heart and honest with God.  Who is Jesus to me?  In my relationship, using my words, how would I describe Him?  After some time of thinking I came up with an answer that I felt was true to me and was being honest with God.

The next question that came to mind was, “Okay Keith, are you now actually living your life according to how you see and understand God/Jesus to be to you?” and then the thought came, “How should this understanding that you have, affect how you live your life?”

Why don’t you stop and ponder the question “Who do you say that I am?”  Then let this affect your life in a positive way.

(As a side note, I realize that for some people your concept of God/Jesus might not be biblically based and therefore you might see Him through fearful eyes or under feelings of rejection or scorn. In this case I trust that God/Jesus will show Himself through the New Testament teachings so you will embrace Him in His true nature of being a good and loving God, One Who wants the best for you).
