Why The Desert?

“If God loves me, why am I in this desert.  He should deliver me.”  It is easy to complain about our life situations, grumbling because we think that as a Christian, life should be turning out different than it is.  If only we could see from God’s eyes and know His purposes and understand what is taking place behind the scene.  God enables us to understand one such situation.    In Exodus 13, the children of Israel are about to leave Egypt, their place of bondage.  God gives some insight into why God allowed certain things to happen.  In Verse 17 and 18 it says, “Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea.”

In love, God led the Israelites into the desert region because He knew that this route would be the best for them.  There were other routes available, but God in His mercy brought the Israelites through the journey in a way which would best suit the people.  There are many different paths which could be before each of us, but can we rest in confidence knowing that God is placing us in the best path for ourselves?

Lord Jesus, You know what is best for us, help us to complain less and trust You more, knowing that the path of the righteous are governed by You.
