In Matthew 13:44, there is a parable of the man who finds a great treasure, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”  In this parable the treasure is valued so much that all of the man’s possessions are sold to obtain the field with the treasure.  This should be how much we value the kingdom of Heaven.
In Matthew 6:20,21, Jesus exhorts us to invest wisely into what is truly important, because where our treasure is, i.e. how we use the money that we have, is an indication of where our heart is.  Mt 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
The Apostle Paul exhorts the believers to value the treasure that God has hidden in us.  Though we are flawed and human, yet God invests His treasure into us, and God is glorified.  2Co 4:7 “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.”
In Psalm 119 verse 162  the Psalmist says that he “rejoices at Your (God’s) word, as one who finds great treasure.”
All these verses speak of treasures, the value that is placed upon the treasure and effort that is extended to obtain the treasure.  With this in mind, it is interesting that in Exodus 19:5  God says, “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.”  Our obedience to the voice of God and our proper response to His covenant makes us special treasures to Him.   The covenant that we are now to respond to is the New Covenant which was initiated through the work of Jesus on the Cross.
Circumstances and pressures may cause us to feel that we have little worth or value.  We may feel useless and unappreciated, yet from God’s perspective, our response in faith and obedience to Jesus Christ causes God to see us as a “special treasure”.  Don’t let others or situations dictate how we feel about ourselves.
Lord Jesus, I want to obey You, I embrace the work which You have accomplished on the Cross for me.  Thank You that in Your eyes, I am precious, a special treasure.
