It Was An Accident

It is not easy to admit that you are wrong and that you made a mistake. Rather than being honest about our fault, we cover over the mistake with small untruths, or we push the blame upon others. To admit that one has made a mistake implies a certain level of accountability and a level of responsibility in the situation. Therefore people prefer to say something was an accident rather than a mistake. It is easy to come up, in our mind, with excuses to justify why we are not to blame for what happened. “It was the actions or words of others, it was not my fault ….” Cleverly crafted words might even convince the people that are listening that you are not at fault. It is interesting how strongly Jesus speaks to the Pharisees in Lu 16:15 “And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.” We may think that covering over the situation so others think best of us will help us to succeed, but God knows our hearts, He knows the truth of all situations. Unless we realize our part in the problem we will never learn, nor will we need the help and strength from our Lord so that we can change or overcome the problem. This self-justifying to obtain a good impression before others, is an abomination in the sight of God. Lord Jesus, give us the courage and strength to honestly admit our faults so that by Your strength we will be changed.
