Gal 4:13 says, “You know that because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at the first.  And my trial which was in my flesh you did not despise or reject, but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus”.  Note from this verse:

  1. When Paul had a physical illness he still took the time to minister to the people.
  2. It appears as though the delay in Paul’s travelling caused him to stay longer in Galatia then what he might have intended , but that this enabled him to minister to the Galatians, many became believers.
  3. Even though Paul had a physical infirmity this did not negatively affect the gospel message which he preached nor did it affect the responses of the people towards him or the message.

At times individuals may feel that their illness or infirmity was an hindrance to God working through them.  Yet in this example of Paul’s life, the proclaiming of the gospel, the salvation of many and the starting of the church in Galatia took place because of the sickness.  God’s great power is such that even sickness or physical weakness cannot keep God’s purposes from coming to pass, instead they actually help God’s purposes come to completion.
Take a moment to reflect on the physical weaknesses that you have, then thank God that He is able to work through you, even in the face of these limitations.
