Take Care Of Them

I was reading in Psalm 82 verse 4 and was challenged about how God expects us, who are mature, those who have resources, the people who have influence, to help the weak and struggling, “Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” In the Message version it says, “You’re here to defend the defenseless, to make sure that underdogs get a fair break; Your job is to stand up for the powerless, and prosecute all those who exploit them.” Much could be said about these verses but in simple terms God expects us to help the fatherless, those who are without defence, the exploited, the weak. We cannot ignore them. Yet to do this means that we become focused upon others more than ourselves. Lord, You have given us much, so that we can help others. Help us to do extend ourselves towards others in need.
