Why Do They Have It All?

It is interesting how easily we become envious of others.  Someone gets something new and we say within ourselves, “Why can’t I get one of those?”, “What makes them so special?”  Of course we are even more envious and irritated when it seems like the individual is less deserving of that item than we are.  When those who are wicked seem to be prospering and getting ahead then it seems even harder to embrace.
This is how David was feeling in Ps 73 when he complained about the prosperity of the wicked.  The undeserving, the wicked, the evil seemed like they had no problems.  They were healthy; they were prosperous; life seemed good to the wicked. The more he thought about this inequity, the more he tried to understand this, the more painful it was. (Vs 16)  That was, “until I went into the sanctuary of God, then I understood their end.” (Ps 73:17)
It was when he was before The Lord that David received fresh perspective on what was happening around him. He realized that though some people may have many things in the world, as a believer, David had what was most important. He had a relationship with God which would last forever.  “Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory.  Whom have I in heaven but You?  And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.  My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalms 73:23-26)
Do you value your relationship with The Lord?  Are you wishing that you had more possessions, a better or easier life? Do you see your walk with God as more precious than the things around you?  Psalms 73:28  says, “But it is good for me to draw near to God;  I have put my trust in the Lord God.”  May this always be a true response from your heart.
