CRAVE

Church of the Rock Audio, Visual & Lighting Ministries.

CRAVE (Church of the Rock Audio Visual Electronic arts) is the combination of various Church of the Rock technical teams.  Together we operate the audio, visual and lighting equipment for the weekend services and many of the midweek events. CRAVE volunteers are trained to serve and use their technical gifts and abilities to bring the gospel of Christ to thousands of people every week in multiple campus locations as well as online and through our national television broadcast.  We believe that ministry is made up of many parts and that it is important to do the work the Lord gives to each of us and support those who will take the next steps.

There are many areas in the CRAVE ministry to get involved.  Although previous technical experience is an asset, it is not a requirement.  We will help you to find the area that matches your passion and abilities, followed by training that will help you feel confident in the role we assign to you.

Audio
Weekend Sanctuary Audio Tech (FOH Tech)

The FOH tech sets up the sanctuary audio system and prepares the stage for the worship band.  Rehearsal starts with a full sound check with the band and vocals. The rehearsal time is used to set up your mix and store your settings.  The FOH tech mixes audio for all the weekend services and works with the with Broadcast audio tech to ensure they have what they need from the stage.
Time Commitment: 9 hours per weekend once a month.

Weekend Stage Audio Tech (A2)

The stage audio tech role is very helpful to both the worship team and the FOH tech, yet it is the quickest audio role to get up to speed with. The A2 assists the FOH tech with stage setup, mics, batteries, etc. and helps the worship team hear what they need to hear on stage using an iPad.
Time Commitment: 4 hours per weekend once a month.

Weekend Broadcast Audio Tech

Our broadcast audio mix is our most complex audio mixing role. The broadcast audio tech mixes live audio which goes out to our mobile campuses, online campus, video, podcasts, and throughout the facility on closed circuit TV.
Time Commitment: 9 hours per weekend once a month.

Midweek Event Audio Tech

There are opportunities to run audio for many different ministry events happening during the week. These events can be church wide worship nights, young adult worship nights, evening classes, conferences and more.
Time commitment: 2-3 hours once a week or once a month.

Lighting

Weekend Lighting/LED Tech

The lighting/led tech is responsible for advancing lighting cues and cues for the LED screens on stage for our weekend services. This enhances the service by creating an atmosphere and colour scheme on our stage. The operator should have a good sense of musical timing, concentration and attention to detail.
Time Commitment: 2 hours a weekend once a month.

Production

Weekend Visual Tech

Two separate visual techs are required each weekend to display song lyrics, images, scripture, videos and timers. One visual tech is responsible for all the graphics that appear on the main screens for the congregation and the other visual tech displays information for people on stage.
Time Commitment: 9 hours per weekend once a month.

Midweek Visual Tech

There are opportunities to volunteer as a visual tech for many different ministry events happening during the week. These events can be church wide worship nights, young adult worship nights, evening classes, conferences and more.
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours once a week or once a month.

Weekend Camera Operator

Camera operators are needed for every weekend service with the Sunday services requiring 3 or 4 operators per service.  Multiple cameras work together to capture the stage from different angles and each operator has unique assignments depending on which camera they are operating. Under the direction of the Camera Director, the camera operators need to focus and compose their camera shots on various parts of the stage throughout the service.
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per weekend twice a month.

Midweek Camera Operator

There are opportunities to operate a camera for different ministry events happening during the week. These events can be church wide worship nights, multi day conferences, online programs and more.
Time Commitment: 2 hours once a month.

Weekend PTZ Camera Operator

A PTZ camera is a robotic camera located in the Sanctuary but controlled from the production room. This camera is used during worship and captures some instrumentalists from a different angle. The controls are simple to use but it can take some time to learn how to use the camera artistically to enhance the worship experience.
Time commitment: 30 minutes to an hour on a weekend or once a month.

Weekend Camera Director

The role of a camera director is fast paced and requires creativity, adaptability, leadership, good communication skills and technical knowledge. The director is in constant communication with the camera operators and gives them directions while choosing the different camera shots and selecting them on the production switcher. Before receiving any training in camera directing, volunteers must be fully trained as a camera operator and have been operating for an extended amount of time.
Time Commitment: 4 hours per weekend one to two times a month.
